About Kaiser

Overview

Kaiser Permanente is an integrated managed care consortium composed of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, and the Permanente Medical Groups. Founded in 1945 and headquartered in Oakland, Kaiser is the largest non-profit integrated health system in the United States. In California, Kaiser serves roughly nine million members across commercial, Medi-Cal, and Medicare populations through its own owned hospitals, medical offices, pharmacies, labs, and physician groups. Kaiser is a contracted Medi-Cal Managed Care Plan in select counties and is expanding its Medi-Cal footprint under California's statewide direct-contracting agreement with DHCS.

Mission

"To provide high-quality, affordable health care services and to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve."

Kaiser's integrated model — single health record, salaried physicians, owned hospitals — means care delivery, financing, and population health management sit inside one organization, with both the advantages and constraints that implies.
